It took you 15 months to get any kind of serious views.
Nobody came to visit you between April 2008 and July 2009
But then somehow, a bump happened.
That bump may have been my review of the Beautiful and Damned
by F.Scott Fitzgerald

I just wanted to say, I was having trouble typing in the post box for some reasons--those links were giving me problems...
ReplyDeleteSo, I additionally wanted to point out what I think are some of the more overlooked post on Flying Houses in an attempt to show you arbitrary SEO can be:
Antichrist - Dir. Lars von Trier (16 views) (8/16/2010) (Written immediately after moving to Brooklyn)
LCD Soundsystem - This is Happening (17 views) (5/30/2010) (A few possible reasons for this--#1 there were a million reviews of this online; #2 it might not have been that good of a review.)
J.D. Salinger - 1919-2010 (5 views) (1/28/2010) (Another example of the above--I was crowded out of the search engines...)
The Hacienda: How Not to Run a Club (16 views) (1/18/10) (I think this is one of the overlooked posts on Flying Houses - I really do feel this is one of my best, and I am surprised it is so unpopular given the popularity of the Fall's Your Future Our Clutter review, which was not very well written, from what I recall...)
Franny and Zooey (29 views) (9/7/2009) (Another overlooked post, and another post on this list involving J.D. Salinger! Maybe there are too many other crazed fans writing about him to get any outside interest--but I do feel I bring a unique perspective to my reviews, and that this was one of my better ones.)
The Hurt Locker (2 views) (6/26/2009) (Okay, I'll admit I recall this one being poorly written as well--but you have to admit it's pretty amazing that the one movie I would review all year that I had actually seen advance at a premiere would go on to win Best Picture.)
Outliers (4 views) (5/15/2009) (Another example potentially of being crowded out - but ironic in light of its title.)
And the Hippos Were Boiled in their Tanks...(4 views) (1/31/2009)(I am very surprised about this one--but here it is important to start keeping this in mind: the blog did not get any hits, seriously, until July 2009--therefore all posts prior to then are much lower for some reason that I can't quite figure out...)
David Foster Wallace (1962-2008)(0 views)(9/16/2008)(Obituaries of writers are exceedingly unpopular I guess.)
Crossing California (3 views) (9/9/2008)(I spent a lot of time working on this from what I recall. And it was a popular book in Chicago. I guess I came too late to the party? Also I seem to recall this being one of my gayest reviews for some reason...)
Try (9 views) (5/15/2008) (For being listed as one of my favorite books on my profile, I am surprised it has gotten so few views--I thought I did a pretty good job on this review.)
Pale Fire (6 views)(4/3/2008)(Ditto for the above. The only Nabokov review with a pathetic total--though Annotated Lolita only has 22...)
This Side of Paradise (6 views) (4/4/2008)(Maybe I was writing poor reviews because I was spitting them out a day at a time, reviewing books I had recently gone through before starting Flying Houses...but I don't think this is a bad review at all...and it's especially shocking in light of the fact that FSF's follow-up to this volume holds the #1 spot in views, by a long shot.)
